Media Monday #403
1. Geschichten über Mord und Totschlag ziehen bei mir ja eigentlich immer und daher kann es auch nie genug Krimiserien für mich geben.
2. Nicole Kidman empfinde ich als extrem überbewertet, da sie mittlerweile enorme Schwierigkeiten dabei hat Emotionen zu zeigen und ihrem Gesicht irgendeine Regung zu entlocken.
3. Diese Grundsatzdiskussionen zum Thema Dieselskandal finde ich unglaublich ermüdent.
Die Autohersteller haben Scheiße gebaut und bewußt jahrelang ihre Kunden betrogen. Dafür sollten sie endlich mal zur Verantwortung gezogen werden, damit die Verbraucher nicht im Regen stehen bleiben – I look at you Andreas Scheuer und Kollegen!!!
4. Allein ins Kino zu gehen macht mir nichts aus. Das Erlebnis zu teilen macht natürlich mehr Spaß, aber wenn ich einen Film unbedingt sehen will, stört es mich auch nicht, mich allein auf zu machen.
5. Mittlerweile stapeln sich bei mir ja wahnsinnig viele ungekuckte DVDs mit den Filmen von Ralph Fiennes.
6. Ich würde ja gerne mal eine Werkschau zu Ralph Fiennes starten, einfach weil er mich gerade sehr beschäftigt und ich alle nötigen DVDs auch schon daheim habe.
7. Zuletzt habe ich sowohl beide Teile der umstrittenen Dokumentation ‚Leaving Neverland‘ (z.B. hier und hier) als auch die Diskussionsrunde ‚After Neverland‚ auf YouTube angeschaut und das war interessant, weil ich mir eine eigene Meinung bilden konnte.
Aber auch anstrengend und verstöhrend und irgendwie auch traurig, auch wenn ich kein Jackson-Fan bin.
Ich wünsche den beiden Jungs jedenfalls alles Gute!
In Deutschland wird das Ganze übrigens von Pro7 im Free TV übertragen und zwar am 6. April.

The Jackson thing: there’s just so much to be angry about. I remember very distinctly where I was when I heard the accusations in 1993 for the first time and my and my then-boyfriend’s dismissive reaction to it. There was an editorial in the Guardian that said that Jackson’s great triumph was that he had groomed society to believe him as opposed to his victims. I think all of us have some self-examination to do on these issues.

1. Kidman was good in Big Little Lies-one of the rare times I have liked her. Also The Hours she wasn’t bad (Oscar worthy not sure about)
2. I watched The Neverland Doc last night, just stumbled on it on HBO. I agree with you on all fronts. I watched Oprahs‘ after show for a bit and the point about Jackson grooming the two men (when they were boys) was revelatory to me.
3. I love your affection for cop shows (ie Death in Paradise I have you to thank for) and murder mysteries and a plethora of movies
4. I go to the movies like you
5. Get on with Fiennes dvds please so you can recommend some of his movies and chat about them!
6. Not touching the diesel discussion!

@Servetus: Nothing better than a dark room and a nice movie to take someones mind off things, eh?
I was never a big fan of the guy, even if I grew up with his LPs/music through my older sister and haven’t cared much about the allegations when they first came up.
When ‚Leaving Neverland‘ was announced my first reaction was ‚Oh, do these guys need money or something‘ but after watching the whole thing I believe them. Even the lying in court sounded plausible to me after they talked about their motives.
Really heartbreaking in so many aspects

Somehow Jackson groomed them long before they even met, so tragic!

Herba, yep that was the point Oprah brought up on the Aftershow that he had groomed them long before he met both men as boys.
Unvermeidlich I used this word on Guylty’s blog discussing The Armitage attraction and I think here you will watch Ralphie’s cv soon. Bitch all you want!! I am being selfish b.c I enjoy your reviews and commentary and I am curious what you think of his movies although Schindler’s List I will not watch b/c of the time setting.

@Michele: The tragedy might be that he not only groomed them and their families but the whole world so to speak. And now mostly everyone sees him as this slightley weird but somehow cute man who never grew up and couldn’t hurt a fly. How can someone fight that?
And if not I might write write a post about it why I hesited to start watching 😉

and on Jackson again I’m with you on what you wrote. My sister was a little more into him she had the Thriller album but I actually liked Off The Wall. I thought creatively he was at his best there. He just seemed very detached and weird as he got older and all this dirty laundry coming out as I thought he tried to wall his privacy up so much the more it unraveled. Those three children of his my heart goes out to them, it really does..

Jackson: I think I had two of his albums — as cassette tapes! (Thriller and Off the Wall). I wasn’t a huge fan but ex-boyfriend was. However, I did really enjoy the music and he was such an icon. Watching him dance was really something.
I don’t imagine I will watch the documentary (or „Surviving R. Kelly“ for that matter, the other big sensation at this cultural moment) but I read an interview somewhere with one of the victims or his mother (?) who said, when asked why they’d be so cooperative with Jackson’s demands, essentially that they were such a huge fan that it didn’t seem like a stranger asking — Jackson was already constantly integrated in their day, they had pictures and music and watched videos every day, etc., so when he wanted something it just seemed like a friend asking. I thought that was interesting in light of all of our discussions about „celebrity worship syndrome“ five years back and so on — one of the aspects of that was allegedly a heightened willingness to do things if a celebrity asked.
(that also made me think how far we’ve come as a fandom — at least we don’t have *that* discussion regularly anymore)

Yes, that was a big point. He also wanted to be picked up by one of the families when he was in town and spent time in their house and the mum said they felt so honoured that that big superstar wanted to spent time with them and felt so at home in their house.
He also talked a lot at the phone with the mums and showed interest in them not only in the boys, it felt totally natural to let the boys stay with him over night. This hasn’t only affected the two boys but also the parents and siblings. And they might never be able to forgive themselves 😦

Im neuen Film von Karyn Kusama namens „Destroyer“ soll die gute Nicole Kidman ja eine ihrer besten Leistungen abliefern. Vielleicht ja auch mit mehr als einem Gesichtsausdruck? 😉

Bei Frau Kidman schließe ich mich an. Sie hat durch die diversen (Details kenne ich da keine) kosmetischen Eingriffe beinahe jegliche Mimik verloren. Nicht umsonst hat sie ich für Destoyer zu abgef. zurechtmachen lassen. 😊🤭

@Wortman: Das freut mich 🙂 Ich werde wohl nie verstehen, wie man als Schauspieler drauf kommt, dass Gesichtsmuskeln festzuzurren eine gute Idee sein könnte. Oder welche Idioten in den Führungsetagen das vor allem Frauen suggerieren!

Ach, das Wasser war`s. Dann weiß ich jetzt auch, was ich falsch mache. Da gucke ich doch gleich mal nach einem Lieferservice für australisches Wasser.Super Idee. Aber trinkt man das oder wird es äußerlich angewandt? Möchte da ja nix verkehrt machen….grübel….

Diese Botox – Süchtigen sind schon ein Fall für sich. Ich würde als Regisseur keine von denen mehr beschäftigen. Schau dir nur mal Melanie Griffith an… da brichst ja freiwillig ins Essen 😆

@Wortman: ich glaube die Griffith hat auch mächtig an sich rumschnipseln lassen….die tauchte irgendwann in einer Folge von Hawaii Five-= auf und ich bin fast vom Sofa gefallen.
Traurig, was unsre Gesellschaft da teilweise für ein Schönheitsideal vertritt

@Stepnwolf: Ja natürlich. Bei ihr finde ich es nur so schade, weil ich mal wirklich viel von ihr gehalten habe und zuletzt halt den EIndruck hatte, dass viele hätte besser sein können, wenn sie nicht so ein starres Gesicht hätte
