Achtung, sehr filmlastig.
Pieces of a Woman
One Night in Miami…
Was passiert, wenn Muhammad Ali, Malcolm X, Sam Cooke und Jim Brown in den Sechzigern eine Nacht zusammen verbringen? Unter anderem mit Kingsley Ben-Adir, Eli Goree und Aldis Hodge. Das schaue ich mir an.
Godmothered
Ich würde die gute Fee erschlagen! 😉 Unter anderem mit Isla Fisher.
The Mauritanian
Our Friend
The Prom
Noch ein Musikfilm. Unter anderem mit Meryl Streep, James Cordon, Kerry Washington und Nicole Kidman
Der Rausch
Lasst uns saufen! 😉 Mit Mads Mikkelsen
The Bee Gees: How Can You Mend A Broken Heart
Tiny pretty things
Ballett meets Mord?
Guantánamo came up in my summer political science class, so I will definitely look at The Mauritanian. I also saw a piece with the remaining Gibb brother in The Guardian yesterday that interested me in the Bee Gees documentary. Their whole „second wave“ was happening when I was a tween. I didn’t realize that there was so much critical dislike of their music.

I just read the most scathing review of „The Prom“ in The Guardian, focused on James Corden. Uch.

@Servetus: It sure looks like an interesting story and I am somewhat astonished that the discussion about Guantanamo somewhat vanished over the years…
When I watched the doco about them on german tv some months ago I was astonished how many songs I know and like are sung by other artists but written by the Gibb’s

I saw the first episode of this last night. I thought it was „skurril“ in a good way.

re: Gibbs writing for others: YES. That was discussed in the interview I read. I had no idea.

re Guantánamo: Petitions to the US Supreme Court stalled after about 2004 or so (won’t give you the whole story, but this is the material we discussed in class; the current status of that question is that a G. detainee may petition for habeas corpus but nothing else). There were about 558 (known) detainees at the beginning of the Obama administration (down from a height of ca. 770) and about 45-55 at the end of it. Several of those were cleared for release but the Obama administration could not find any country to take them. As I understand it (the numbers don’t mesh because not every government agency is obliged to release information that might be classified) there are about 40 who may be scheduled for indefinite detention. But the Trump administration has made little effort to release prisoners (I think maybe one or two have left in the last four years, that I remember) and indeed, is keeping the prison open and invested in renovations to the tune of $200M — all the time complaining that the cost of keeping prisoners there is insane (he’s right).
