I did not know of Michel Bergmann. I’ll definitely get that one.
If you like that general theme (rabbi cooperates with police chief), there are the novels by Harry Kemelman. starting with „Friday the Rabbi Slept Late.“ I really loved those books. Not sure they made it into German.

@Servetus: Before I stumbled over that book me neither, but I really enjoyed it. I enjoyed the rabbi’s (or better the author’s?) sense of humor, the setting and the interaction between the rabbi and the police man. A real nice, light read.
Thanks for the tip I’ll definitely will check those out. I think the only books that come to my mind with a somewhat similar plot are the Decker-Lazarus-books that I read ages ago and which I quite enjoyed.
Edit: Kemelman’s books made it to Germany and got a reprint in 2001 – yay

Good to know. IMO these would make a great TV series. I liked Decker / Lazarus, too — although I thought the plot extending through the novels was wildly unrealistic!

@Servetus: I sure would watch it, at least if the casting wasn’t somehow mismatched or something like that.
As often I lost touch at some point with the series but I really would love to reread them again eventually.
