Media Monday #487
1. Zu Halloween ist es hier Tradition alles so zu verrammeln, dass man denkt es wäre niemand zu Hause. Der Familienhund kriegt nämlich Zustände, wenns ständig klingelt.
Außerdem sind wir vorletztes Jahr auf einem Haufen Süßigkeiten sitzen geblieben, weil niemand kam und nun ist’s eben Schluß mit lustig.
2. Horror, Splatter, Grusel und Psychoschocker sind ja Geschmacksache. Mir persönlich geben diese Genre wenig und ich brauche schon einen guten Grund, um sowas zu schauen.
3. Wenn es aber mal so richtig „familienfreundlicher“ Horror sein darf…
Es gibt familienfreundlichen Horror???? Ist mir bisher noch nie untergekommen. Wie sieht denn sowas aus?
4. Schon komisch, jetzt nach der Zeitumstellung geht es schnurstracks auf Weihnachten zu? Ansonsten könnte ich gut auf das Zeitumstellungsgedöns verzichten und hoffe, dass das bald mal abgeschafft wird!
5. Mit dem guten Wetter scheint es derweil auch vorbei zu sein und ich werde nun wieder öfter nass beim Gassigehen. Allerdings hat hier in den letzten Tagen noch öfter die Sonne geschienen und das weiß ich dann, wenn es ansonsten nur trüb ist, viel mehr zu schätzen.
6. Schön, dass wenigstens ____ nicht pandemiebedingt ausfällt oder verschoben wird, schließlich ____ .Es gibt was, das nicht verschoben wurde?????
7. Zuletzt habe ich Kuchen gebacken und das war nur so semioptimal, weil der Kuchen nicht so ganz meinen Geschmack trifft.
Für den Orangen-Mandelkuchen werden zwei ganze Orangen verarbeitet (samt Schale) und die waren in meinem Fall wohl etwas herb, was man beim Endprodukt dann etwas zu sehr rausschmeckt.
Unkraut vergeht nicht....oder doch?

Ich schätze, mit „familienfreundlicher Horror“ ist so etwas wie beispielsweise „Beetlejuice“ gemeint, wobei „Horror“ da naturgemäß eher relativ ist. 😉

Yes, thankfully. A shifting would have been horrible

Bei uns bleibt die Tür auch zu an Halloween.
Familienfreundlicher Horror – das ist die Addams Family oder die Munsters 🙂

Halloween — yeah, there might be 75 or 80 normally if we didn’t pretend not to be here. Turning on your yard light is the traditional signal that you’re willing to be visited. (We also don’t have decorations up, which is another signal.) Not sure how it will be this year. The town is still holding its scheduled trick or treating hours.

@Servetus: Sadly in my part of the woods Halloween is a thing now without the signals from the US when to trick or treat or not. So the only chance for a silent evening is to ‚barricade‘ everything and act as if nobody is at home. Oh and our ‚Beware of the dog‘ helps a little too 😉

@mwj: Geht ja leider auch nicht anders.
Wir haben hier zwar das nach Süßigkeiten fragen aus den USA übernommen, aber leider nicht die ‚Regeln‘ die dazugehören. EIgentlich ‚darf‘ man nämlich nicht klingeln, wenn ein Haus nicht dekoriert ist oder wenn das Hoflicht nicht brennt. Das kümmert hier nur keinen, also wird alles abgedunkelt.

Ich habe so gut wie nie Süßigkeiten im Haus und es lohnt sich daher auch nicht, für einen Tag im Jahr welche zu kaufen. Ich selbst kann sie ohnehin nicht essen.

Beetlejuice: I saw it when I was a teen — not sure how it would hold up. We thought it was great at the time. I googled „family friendly horror films“ and two frequent suggestions are „Ghostbusters“ (which I thought was a comedy, not horror) and „Gremlins“ (which scared the s*** out of me when I saw it as a young teen).
Halloween: I should clarify — most places in the US (from big cities to small towns) have scheduled trick or treating hours. So if you ring the bell outside of that time at a house with no lights on and no decorations, then you’re probably SOL (shit outta luck). If you really want to be safe you lock up and go out for that time (dinner, movie, etc.), but that’s not safe this year, so a lot of people will be home. Some cities have refused to sanction trick or treating this year, but that’s a mixed bag because some people will want to do it nevertheless, so my impression is most places have tried to limit hours. There’s also the phenomenon of trick or treating tourism — kids from underserved areas (poor, or sparsely settled) coming to trick or treat in neighborhoods where they don’t live. This creates some tension, but it’s hard to stop people since the times are publicly announced. In general trick or treating is seen as mostly something for children under 12. Teenagers do it, but it’s mildly frowned upon. Also in the strange atmosphere in this year, some neighborhoods are trying to coordinate who will be home via the Internet (though this seems like a bad idea to me, insofar as you’re advertising to the world that you plan to be away), and some neighborhoods are suggesting that people leave goodie bags out on their porch in lieu of answering the door.

yeah, it’s an industry on its own. Americans are predicted to spend $8 billion (Milliarden) in 2020, down from $9B last year. But one reason the municipalities get involved is that they don’t want kids on the streets after dark — most of the US is not especially safe for pedestrians even in the daylight.
