A Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood

Jack Ryan, Staffel 2
Yeay, ich freu mich drauf!

A Confession

Why Women kill
Das sieht irgendwie herrlich schräg aus

The Capture

Catherine The Great

Herba, some of those look really good. I love Helen Mirren too so Catherine the Great looks fantastic. I love your little snippets: „A Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood“ not necessarily mine (google translate) very spot on!! I grew up with Mr. Rogers though every morning eating breakfast before school. Our mutti I don’t think knew who Mr. Rogers was just the channel with the children’s programs on it.

@Michele: It means something along the lines of ’not necessarily my cup of tea‘.
I know his name, but not who he is or if Tom Hanks is a good fit to play him 🙂

Herba, I thought your comment was quite funny even if not intentionally so. Tom Hanks IMO is a great fit for Fred Rogers. Mr Rogers was very genteel and all about kindness and compassion for all. I don’t know what his thoughts would be about the kids growing up today with Social media. I suspect he would not be happy. He struck me as very old fashion and do unto others as you would have done unto you. treat people with respect.. Again that is just my perspective having grown up with him on television.

Herba, yes yes it does. I wish my German was more confident to reply auf Deutsch but it is pretty poor I’m afraid. I don’t want to offend and sound stupid here.

I am really looking forward to „Harriet.“

Mr. Rogers — I’d say „I think you have to have been there“ except I was there (seriously — the series started the year before I was born and ran through my entire childhood and adolescence and afterwards) and I don’t get it. I didn’t especially like or hate it at the time. it was my least favorite of the three series we regularly watched on Public TV (Sesame Street and Electric Company were the others), back when Public TV was one of only four channels and often hard to tune in on our weak antenna. Honestly, even as a child, I found him boring and preachy — and given that I was in church a minimum of twice a week anyway, that was saying something. I liked the puppet segments on the show. The best I can say for the program these days when I glimpse it while channel surfing is that it is sententious and platitudinous. I honestly think he is more popular now than he was back then and I think it has something to do with nostalgia for the mood of the early 70s US. I would never deny the importance of the program or that he did some pioneering and important things (particularly with regard to racial integration), I just think the nostalgia completely overstates his significance at the time. I did see the Fred Rogers documentary last summer and it was really sugary.

So, no, I’m not that interested but I might see it on a cheap day if there’s nothing else to see.

@Servetus: Me too. She sure was an interesting woman. Hopefully the movie will reflect that and live up to her heritage!
I agree on the ‚you have to have been there‘ part. Really hard to see the attraction nearly 40 years later…

    –I thought Harriet was excellent.
–I just saw „A Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood,“ and it was a better film than i thought it would be. It at least signals in the direction of Fred Rogers not being a perfect person from time to time. However, I think if you didn’t watch the original show, this will just be a sort of weepie film about how a children’s TV celebrity helps out a troubled journalist. Tom Hanks is fine but he’s just mimicking Fred Rogers. It’s a good impression but there’s nothing really memorable about it.

@Servetus: Have to wait to watch it till spring 2020 but I plan to watch it.
I think I’ll give it a miss even if I really like Tom Hanks
