Eigentlich sollte hier heute ein Eindruck zu einem Hörbuch online gehen. Aber wenn man erst knapp 15 von 32 Kapitel angehört hat, klappt das natürlich nicht, daher gibts nur dieses Bild:

Ich wollte gerade schreiben, dass ich mir nie merken kann, was in den einzelnen Jackman Thrillern so passiert, aber nun fiel’s mir doch noch ein. Jou, war auch wieder ganz spannend… Mir gefallen die Ellis-Bücher schon.
Hast du schon CJ Tudor gehört? Ich hab letztes Wochenende dazu geschreinert. War nicht so schlimm wie ich befürchtet hatte…

I am reading Their Lost Daughters right now over half way thru it paperback style and I love her use of language and scenery. I like Jackman and can pic The Armitage as Jackman but Father Quart (um er yummy) was better developed. I have looked into some of her other books b/c her particulars of time and place are very descriptive. The story’s a bit hokey though(so far).
CJ Tudor: spooky writing or descriptive? Has to be better than Coben…

it’s like „so“ for me. (I finally started these books with the Murderer’s Son — did this woman not actually get any editing? The plotting is horrible. There’s no way I’d finish this book if Armitage were not in it.)

@Guylty: Dieses ist mein erstes. Bisher finde ich es okay, aber das abschließende Urteil steht noch aus. Ich finde bei Krimis kommt auch viel auf die Auflösung an.
Nein Tudor habe ich bisher noch nicht gehört, mal schauen wann ich dazu komme.

It’s going to take me a while to get to the end of this one (I think I’m a third of the way through? I can listen to one disc per hour in my car, approximately) but I’m getting impatient. They don’t manage to say anything in detail about the victim until halfway through the third hour? That is neither how the police work nor how police procedurals should be written; it’s a total break with generic convention and I don’t exactly see what for. (There are other things I don’t like but I’ll limit it to that for now.) And I understand, you’re a person who has to get all the way to the end of a story 🙂

Ich muss zugeben, dass The Murderer’s Son nicht gerade das Spannendste von den Jackman Büchern ist… Aber trotzdem – die Stimme von Herrn A versöhnt einen dann ja doch wieder ein bisschen…

@Servetus: I needed two weeks to get to where I am so I totally can relate to that.
The concentration on the suspect and leaving out details about the victims is really strange and I asked myself what the author wants to accomlish with that.
Yes, at least if I want to write about it. For me the end of a story can completely change my verdict, for better or for worse.

Yeah — that’s the thing — nothing about these discs really compels me to want to put the next one into the player when one is finished. I’m already only listening to them when I am too emotionally bruised to listen to the news on my work commute, and the temptation to switch back to radio or music is strong (especially after lecturing for 150 minutes with a ten minute break).
It’s interesting that you feel that way — I can agree with you that the ending will change my impression of a book IF it makes sense, i.e., an ending I like after pages and pages of plot that doesn’t really lead there almost angers me — like why did I waste my time? But usually, to be fair, I don’t get that far. If a book is going to frustrate me that much I can usually sense that well before the ending and I just abandon it. Life is short and all.
