Herba, I read the book Armitage style „in one go“ and agree with everything you said above. I actually thought Adam was faceless, expressionless and no character development. Corinne was a bit better and I am trying to visualize while reading what actress would compliment Richard as Adam. It was a very easy read even for me so that aspect I enjoyed. I don’t really plan on anymore Coben books to read after seeing The Five and Safe on Netflix there are patterns to his books which are quite predictable. I think Richard will have a grand time molding this character to fit the story line.

@Guylty: Gute Frage, nächste Frage!

@Michele: For Corinne they will need someone who seems to be a bit cold I guess. No idea who that might be….
Yes, RA should have a great time creating a backstory for Adam and bring him to life.

Herba, that is a great way to describe her as cold… but I think a bit tall or medium height, someone physically who matches up to Richard. Richard will have a field day with this character-no wonder he was chortling tweeting about it!!!

i read it the same weekend as Michele. It’s a simply written book but a good concept. It’s perfect for tv adaptation as the scriptwriters and Richard can filler out the characters much more than Coben has. I would say it was a page turner in that i wanted to know what the ultimate idea was and it was good in that sense-which again i think if perfect for cling hanging tv episodes

i’m not sure if Corinne is cold -she just seems very focused. She knows what she wants and goes for it, Adam mostly appeared to be a bit of a passenger in their life as a couple – a happy passenger when he actually thinks about it though

@Rachel: She seemed cold to me but you’re right. She could be only very driven and yes to the somewhat passive Adam.

@Rachel 🙂 They really could tell us a bit more by now. At least one or two actor names, that’s all I want to know!

Herba oh yeah gosh no not her!! I’m so glad it wasn’t just me watching that season thinking what bizarre accent does she have? I mean Lucas who I guess was practing morphing into John but really was Bateman was so aloof a character anyway that Ros
to be was the best fit for him ❤️😘🤣

Rachel do you think he was really happy? I mean I don’t want to discuss stuff here heaven forbid I divulge spoilers but things weren’t what they seemed and Corinne was a devoted mom but Corben didn’t really in my mind flesh out Adam and her relationships as particularly loving like physically or was that just me?

I think so, he just wasn’t really thinking about if he was happy or not! How often do we think about our situation especially if we have a busy life ?

Rachel yeah maybe that was one of the points of Corbens book then!

@Michele: Naaa, a lot of fans disliked her character and mocked her accent a little.
I liked him with Ros but she always was Adam’s girl, so no chance for Mr. North 😉

@Michele: For me it seemed he was unhappy at the beginning of the book, but during the story I felt even if they weren#t madly in love any more, the two of them had a solid relationship. And Adam said so too at one point if I remember correctly.

Herba, see I thought Adam felt the safe one in the relationship and Corinne was the controller she was in charge of everything but Corben didn’t in my opinion do a great job of fleshing out that relationship-maybe on purpose or he got sidetracked with the subplots. I see in Safe that the same thing happened with Michael C Hall’s character and Rachel the wife very parallel situation. I hope Richard and whoever plays Corinne (Suranne Jones would be good too) delve into that relationship a bit better at the beginning of the series.

This reflects more or less my impression of Coben’s novels — I know I’ve read one or two but I couldn’t tell you which. But then I keep remembering what a horrible book Chris Ryan’s Strike Back is, so … not sure if I’m reading it ahead of time or not, though.

@Michele: Yes, Coben seems to be one of the authors that don’t invest that much in character or relationship development. And yes, hopefully whoever adapts that book for the screen will change that to gibe the actors things to act!

@Servetus: Hopefully the creators will do as good as a job the Strike Back writers did back in the day and not go done the Steinhauer path with it! *sigh*

Herba the same team who adapted Safe is doing The Stranger Nicola Schindler Red Production w same writer on board! Richard will have probably developed quite a back story!

@Michele: Yes, I know and I think they also did ‚The Five‘. We’ll have to wait and see how ‚The Stranger‘ will turn out!

Schindler apparently produces another tremendously popular TV series in the UK (I’ve forgotten the name), so I’m thinking this should be fine. (thumbs pressed)

@Servetus: Happy Valley with Sarah Lancashire and James Norton? She also did Scott and Bailey with Suranne Jones and Lesley Sharp and last year Butterfly with Anna Friel and Alison Steadman.
I really loved Happy Valley and I liked Scott and Bailey a lot but haven’t watched Butterfly yet.
Maybe I am a bit careful with my enthusiasm because I thought of ‚The Five‘ (the other Coben production I have seen) only as ‚mittelprächtig‘ or because of all of RAs projects that promissed that much and gave so little? A bit of both I guess at the moment…
But overall I am glad he’ll be doing this!
