Ende 2016 habe ich analog zu meiner Blogserie Buchmix, die in sehr unregelmäßigen Abständen erscheint, den ersten Post zur Blogserie Serienmix veröffentlicht und erzählt wieso ich dieses Format ab und zu wähle.
Nun wurde es höchste Zeit mal wieder einen Serienmix zu schreiben. Es gilt auch hier: Ich gehe nur kurz auf Inhalt und meinen Kuckeindruck ein und wenn es nicht explizit dabei steht, habe ich alle aufgeführten Serien in der Originalversion geschaut.

‚When we rise‘ – Die achtteilige Dokudrama-Serie erzählt die Geschichte des Kampfs um Bürgerrechte für Schwule und Lesben in den USA ab 1971 bis in die heutige Zeit und basiert lose auf den Memoiren von Cleve Jones (Guy Pearce).
Die Miniserie verknüpft persönliche Schicksale mit historischen Fakten, um deutlich zu machen, wie heftig der Kampf um Bürgerrechte für die LGBT Community war und immer noch ist.
Mir hat das ganze recht gut gefallen und ich habe einiges gelernt, auch wenn es einige kleinere Längen gibt und nicht alle Schauspieler auf dem gleichen Niveau agieren.

‚American Crime Story – The People v. O.J. Simpson‚ – Die erste Staffel der amerikanischen Anthologie-Serie beschäftigt sich mit dem aufsehenerregenden Mordprozess gegen O.J. Simpson.
Oh mein Gott, war das gut! Ich war ja mehr als skeptisch, weil Cuba Gooding jr. nicht mal im Entferntesten Ähnlichkeit mit Simpson hat, aber er spielt das für mich ganz großartig, genau wie die anderen Schauspieler, egal ob man nun Sarah Paulson, Sterling K. Brown oder jemand anderen aus dem Cast nennen will.
Das war spannend, gut gespielt und unterhaltsam und ich kann eine wirkliche Empfehlung aussprechen!
Aber Achtung, ich kann mich zwar an die Fernsehbilder von damals erinnern, als der weiße Wagen von der Polizei verfolgt wurde, habe mich aber damals nicht weiter mit dem Prozess auseinandergesetzt und daher im Vorfeld wenig Wissen darüber angesammelt und kann daher auch keine wirklichen Vergleiche zur Wirklichkeit ziehen.

‚Star Trek: Discovery‚ – irgendwo im Weltall bricht im Jahr 2256 ein Krieg zwischen den Klingonen und der Förderation aus und Sternenflottenoffizier Michael Burnham (Sonequa Martin-Green) wird zu einer zentralen Figur in diesem Konflikt.
Ich bin mit den Star-Trek-Abenteuern rund um Captain Jean Luc Picard groß geworden, auch wenn mich SiFi-Stoffe eigentlich eher nicht interressieren.
Aber wenn man nur fünf Programme zur Verfügung hat und eine Serie zur besten Kinder- und Jugendlichen-Sendezeit gezeigt wird, kam man da eben in den Neunzigern nicht dran vorbei.
Ein Trekkie bin ich wie gesagt trotzdem nicht und ich kann nicht auf ein großes Hintergrundwissen zum Thema zurückgreifen.
Trotzdem (oder vielleicht deswegen?) haben mir die ersten Abenteuer der Discovery Spaß gemacht, auch wenn es durchaus schwache Folgen gibt, die Klingonen wie die neueste Erfindung im Sortiment von Tupperware aussehen und – Achtung Spoiler!!! – die Macher Jason Isaacs alias Captain Gabriel Lorca am Ende von Staffel 1 umbringen.

‚The Exorcist‚ – Der erfahrene Exorzist Father Marcus lernt den jungen Father Tomas kennen und macht ihn zu seinem Schüler.
In Staffel Eins helfen die beiden der Familie Rance, in Staffel Zwei kümmern sie sich um eine Pflegestelle für Kinder, die heimgesucht wird.
Horror ist eigentlich nicht so meins, aber wenn Ben Daniels mitspielt, musste ich wenigstens mal einen Blick riskieren und bin hängen geblieben.
Als Nicht-Horror-Fachfrau würde ich das Ganze als solide Unterhaltung einstufen, die für mich vor allem von den schauspielerischen Fähigkeiten von Daniels und Alfonso Herrera lebt und stellenweise etwas eklig ist.
Wer Probleme damit hat, dass die katholische Kirche als korrumpierte Vereinigung dargestellt wird, die dem teufel näher ist als Gott, sollte sich das Ganze vermutlich eher nicht anschauen!

‚The Good Doctor‚ handelt von Shaun Murphy, einem jungen Chirurg, der brilliant ist, aber auf Grund seines Autismus und des ‚Savant Syndroms‘ immer wieder bei Kollegen und Patienten im fiktionalen St. Bonaventure Hospital aneckt.
Diese Serie schaue ich unheimlich gern, weil ich dabei wunderbar abschalten kann, sie mich gut unterhält und weil Freddie Highmore den Autisten großartig spielt.
Sicher ist nichtmal die Hälfte des Gezeigten authentisch, aber ich will ja auch unterhalten werden und nicht per Fernsehserie Medizin studieren!

Kennt jemand eine der Serien? Und falls ja, wie findet/fandet ihr sie?
Unkraut vergeht nicht....oder doch? 
I thought „The People v. OJ Simpson“ was excellent as well. (That case involved some of my earliest German flashbulb memories. I was in Wolfenbüttel for the first time, doing a paleography course at the HAB, during the car chase and remember us all watching it on TV; a year and a half later I was in Frankfurt for Yom Kippur and when the holiday started, the trial had just gone to the jury; when I got out, and was taking the train back to the Göttingen the newspapers were covering his acquittal.) I saw a lot of that trial and thought it was really realistic. However, I watched the first episode of Gianni Versace (season 2) and was bored.
Last night I saw the first two episodes of something I think is going to be good: Killing Eve (on BBC America).

@Servetus: Glad you liket it too. Same here with the Versace case. The guy who plays the murderer is good but the storytelling wasn’t my cup of tea!
I saw the trailer and thought the two ladies seemed a bit weird but I would give it a try because I like crime shows a lot.

she’s a desk jockey who wants to be a field agent and she has this sort of appealing incompetence. I’m definitely going to watch the rest of the episodes in this series.

Ich verfolge Stewart ein wenig auf seinen Social Media Kanälen und finde ihn da sehr authentisch und auch sehr sympathisch

I think it was episode 3 (saw it last night) and they were in one of the same canal-side bars that Berlin Station filmed in, I believe. Berlin was more of a backdrop, though, than a part of the plot.

Last night I watched episode 4 (so unfortunately I’m all caught up now) and I think that they used some of the same church settings that were used in Spooks 8 and 9.

It’s weekly. I’m so self-contradictory. I don’t like to binge watch, but if I do, I want the whole thing in one piece. But then if I wait to watch until all the episodes of something are available, I put off doing it …. Grrr.

@Servetus: Glad you enjoying it so far. I started with season 3 last week (only watched the first episode so far) and am not sure if I like the direction the story takes but I’ll stay with it because I like the crew of the Discovery and want to see what will happen to them.

Now I’ve seen the next two (so four total. Our cable package has those for free. I guess CBS must be showing the episodes somewhere in their regular schedule again, so it will be a week by week thing for the rest of that season for me). I had a much stronger „oh, this is a typical Bryan Fuller story“ feel as I got deeper into it (which isn’t necessarily bad, just potentially not so much my thing) but I will definitely keep watching. Jason Isaacs is an interesting choice for captain, and I love that a Black woman is at the center of the story.

In what way? Not the normal Star Trek material?
Michael is a great character and I love the fact that she is black too. The cast is diverse in general which is a good thing!

I feel like Isaacs is a bit „rougher“ and tougher than the previous captains. A more openly aggressive type. I’m looking forward to seeing Shazad Latif’s face. Only know him from Spooks 🙂

@Servetus: Yeah, I can relate to that. He seems a bit more like a warrior than Picard for example (I don’t know much about the Trekkie universe so I wasn’t sure if my impression was right).
Poe calls him (Sahne)Schnitte and I find him easy on the eyes too. But not with the bushy beard he has later in the show

I think that’s right. In the other series, the captain is the main character and he’s a heroic figure — none of them have really severe character flaws, and while they are courageous and occasionally imprudent or reckless, you’re never in doubt that they are the good guys. There are occasional authority figures in the other series who are dishonest or belligerent, but they are always minor characters and they usually are destroyed or courtmartialed. (To some extent this was because Gene Roddenberry, the creator of the original Star Trek, controlled the plots and scripts until his death and he had a policy that people on the Enterprise could never be in meaningful conflict with each other. Talk about unrealistic! But it meant conflict in the script always had to come from somewhere else.) I think one reason that Star Trek was / is so popular in the US is that we’d like to think our military was really like the Federation. So in some ways it’s a transformation to have an important character be so „edgy.“

@Servetus: The implications on real life always amazes me when it comes to Star Trek – a real fascinating culture.
I really liked the always calm and collected Picard but I also like the somewhat grittier Lorca (and I really enjoyed Isaacs talking about wearing the Trekkie suit *lol*)
