@Serv: Ich hab auch ziemlich viel gegrinst beim Anschauen (sowohl beim Film gestern als auch beim Making of heute), aber die Kuh ist bei mir noch nicht vom Eis fürchte ich.

@CraMERRY: Ich hab aus dem 20minütigen Making of von der DVD nur die RA-Schnipsel rausgeschnitten und dann nicht zusammengefügt, sondern eben schnittchenweise hochgeladen 🙂

Oh, Huh. At least from my experience, YT almost never challenges copyrighted material under 30 seconds. (the only challenge I’ve gotten is from the rightsholder to Throne of Blood — and they are notorious for challenging everything).

Thank you so much. I’ve been hoping someone would share these interviews. This is one of those series where you just wish he had a chance to say a little more. I was intrigued that he was able to have input into how his character looked. I’d like to hear what French fans think of his feeling that he was playing a character with more confidence when speaking French ( he didn’t say it, but rather than English with a French accent) – and yeah – what does he mean, first time he’s had the upper hand in a fight scene?

The upper hand comment is really, really weird and I have no idea how he meant that….mysterious as always!

Sorry to interfere with my opinion here…I’m sure not a popular opinion as is always the case.
I think I understand him a little. In Robin Hood, even if physically RA is more powerful than Jonas Armstrong, Guy always lost because Robin was the hero. In Hobbit, Thorin is always fighting forces more powerful than he is, Azog, Smaug, even the Elves in some ways more powerful. Porter and Lucas are powerful up to a point, but come to a sad ending both. Porter is powerless at the end. In Pilgrimage, Raymond should have the power both physical and having his Norman soldiers to support him, but certainly Raymond feels he is physically more powerful than any of the others…until…

I always find it interesting (and absolutley valid) how different people see such things.
You sure have a point with your observations but it’s Raymonds final scene that made me question RA’s statement, because for example Thorin always thought he was the winner till the last moment on the ice with Azog when he decided to sacrifice himself and for me that is very similar to Raymond.

Hi Herba – interesting how you see the characters because to me Thorin and Raymond are not alike at all. They are entirely different.
I feel Raymond is very aware of how physically powerful he is, much bigger and taller than almost all the other men. He uses that to intimidate those around him, except for his father who has the upper hand as far as power. I feel Thorin is aware of the physical difference between him and Azog during that final fight.

@Fabo: Oh no, I don’t think Raymond and Thorin are that much similar only insofar that they are both very confident warriors with sad ends.
I am with you on the physical advantage of Raymond over the other men…..mmmmmh, yes, if RA’s comment is related to that it makes more sense….although Guy was taller than Robin too….I really will have to think about that a bit more….or kidnap RA and ask him all the questions I have 😉

Irgendwie pervers, ich gucke mir die irischen Hintergrundinformationen hier am griechischen Strand an, fühlt sich komisch an. Wobei man Armitage ja in jeder Lebenslage, an jedem Ort gerne sieht. Musste beim Französisch allerdings ein bisschen grinsen. Allerdings muss ich Armitage wiederum loben, was seine Einsicht in Sprachpsychologie angeht. Diese Dualität der Gefühle, die mit Muttersprache und Zweitsprache einhergeht, hat er als einsprachiger Mensch sehr gut erkannt. Ich kann seinen Eindruck insifern bestätigen, als dass für mich die Muttersprache ebenfalls näher an den Emotionen dran ist als die erlernte Fremdsprache, die bei aller Flüssigkeit immer noch ein bisschen Distanz zum Herz hat. Insofern passt das mit der Brutalität auf Französisch irgendwie schon.
Und ich habe jetzt Lust auf diesen Film…

Herzlichen Dank! Herrn Armitage in vollem Ornat tiefgründig über seine Rolle sinnieren zu sehen…
Hach, das erinnert mich lebhaft an die guten, alten Hobbit-Zeiten. Schön und rätselhaft… Es gefällt ihm also, wenn er die Oberhand hat, obwohl er auch diesmal wieder mausetot endet, wenn ich die Andeutungen richtig deute.
Wenn ich ihn mir in seinen bisherigen kämpferisch angelegten Rollen vorstelle, dann spielte er meistens Männer (und einen Zwerg), die den Umständen ausgeliefert waren und reagieren mussten. Er war eher nicht der Strippenzieher, der seine eigenen Ziele erreichen konnte. Aber kann er das in dieser Rolle??

What made his remark confusing was its application to the narrow frame of the fight scene itself (which is what he seemed to be talking about, but often his speech is imprecise). If we widen the frame, though, I don’t see how Porter was powerless at the end. He rode off in a blaze of glory, guns blazing, his enemy dead. Had Armitage not been cast in the Hobbit, he’d have been back in series 2 with the same energy — his death was arbitrary and not really related to the trajectory of the character. Same with Lucas / Bateman (even if I didn’t admire his choice, he was steering the entire situation, albeit passive aggressively). Thorin is a mixed bag but I think if you said to Thorin, you’re an underdog as a fighter, he’d have disagreed strongly, and Armitage said this a few times, the dwarves are in their prime, they are hardened battle dwarves, etc. The only person who I think was not regularly the possessor of the upper hand was Guy, but that was intentional in the script.
I *do* think that Richard Armitage has a bit of a sense of himself as not having the upper hand, however, and that he brings a tinge of that to a lot of his roles (and perhaps this one, too).

Diese kleinen Interviewschnipsel waren wirklich mal balsam auf das geschundene Fangirlherz – ich saß grinsend vorm Fernseher 🙂
Ich finde die Aussage, daß er endlich mal überlegen ist, immer noch gewagt, auch wenn Fabos Argument (irgendwo in den Kommentaren weiter oben) schon etwas für sich hat, daß er es vielleicht rein auf die körperliche Überlegenheit bezogen hat. RA ist hier nämlich wirklich so ziemlich der Größte von allen.
Ansonsten würde ich persönlich Raymond eher nicht als überlegen ansehen, sondern auch wieder als Variation des altbekannten RA-Rollenthemas: wütend, leicht gestört und am Ende nicht so wirklich erfolgreich.
Aber das ist wie gesagt meine ganz persönliche Einordnung…

Whatever made him say (and think) that about Raymond, it wasn’t the impression I’ve got when I watched the movie. Even when he met with the savages he hadn’t seemed predominant to me
